Arty Jackson and Carys Lewin are ‘Humm’ a Bath-based contemporary folk duo with stories to tell, minds to change and worlds to re-imagine.
Since 2018 they’ve captivated audiences with melodic finger-style guitar, lush ethereal vocals and rich harmonium drones, creating genre-defining tracks that are mellifluous but anthemic. The importance and presence of nature is at the heart of Humm’s music with conversational melodies and wistful instrumentation bringing their earnest lyrics to life.
Humm take listeners on a twisted journey through love, hate and heartbreak, rooted in traditional music. Telling alluring, folkloric tales of Welsh saints and Greek sinners, Cornish fairy tales and medieval legends to solidify their place in folk music.
Being influenced by a plethora of artists from John Martyn, Joni Mitchell and Paul Simon to Eels, Radiohead and XTC, has inspired them to combine traditional and contemporary styles, forging a fresh new sound.
Humm are a band well known for captivating performance with notable shows at Komedia, Bath and Cornwall Folk Festival, they’ve enthralled audiences across the Uk becoming masters of live performance. They were recently seen performing at Forthlin Road, the childhood home of Sir Paul McCartney after winning the National Trust Forthlin road Competition.
